Tokyo is home to two amazing Disney parks that are a must for any theme park lover – but when is the best time to visit Tokyo Disney? We are sharing those important dates and seasons to look out for in this post.
As with every theme park around the world, no-one wants to visit when the park is super busy. If you can avoid the crowds, you are going to have a much better experience exploring the parks and enjoying your favourite rides. Tokyo Disney Resort is a very popular park, with queues beginning to form 2 hours ahead of opening sometimes.
There are certain months and times of the year you need to avoid because of crowds or weather, so let’s jump into key dates.
Worst time to visit Tokyo Disney Resort
Weekends – This sounds obvious but avoid weekends and Mondays; the park is a lot busier on these days, with locals heading to the parks for a weekend trip.
National holidays – Japan has some major public holidays which sees these theme parks flying fast. Use the office holidays to check for dates but generally, the first week of May is Japan’s Golden Week and the Christmas season can be busy too. There are 16 national holidays throughout the year so keep an eye on these dates and avoid.
Weather – Although we talk about the positives of visiting in the low season below, the weather is the biggest reason that winter is avoided. During January and February, temperatures can drop to 0°C or 32°F and it can get windy. It begins to warm up in March.
On the other hand, summer can be unbearably hot, hitting highs of 31°C or 88°F.
Seasonal events – When Disney holds big seasonal events, expect moderate to heavy crowds in the parks. The event maybe a draw in itself but it is worth noting that Tokyo Disney Resort offer several different events throughout the year. Visit the Tokyo Disney Resort events page for up-to-date details. - New year’s – Once the Christmas event ends through to the first week of January, the park sees huge crowds.
- Spring break – From the end of February and throughout March, local schools have Spring Break, causing a huge spike in visitors at Tokyo Disney.
- Golden week – As mentioned above, this national holiday is best to avoid and lands around the end of April, beginning of May.

Best times to visit Tokyo Disney Resort
Best day of the week to visit Tokyo Disneyland: – Tuesday to Friday are much better days to visit the park compared to the weekend and Mondays.
Mornings – Crowds are at their heaviest during the morning, so arrive early but stay late to make the most out of your trip.
Winter/slow season – Even though you should avoid the build up to Christmas time, if you are looking for a quite experience at Tokyo Disney, head here during the last few weeks of January and first two weeks of February. The weather is much colder but the parks are particularly quiet. However, if you are opting for this time, make sure you check the Chinese New Year period, Tokyo Disney is a popular place during this time.
June – June is rainy season in Japan and with the rain comes quieter parks. If you don’t mind the rain, use these days to your advantage.
Best time of year to visit Tokyo Disneyland:
- April – The weather is warming up, Japan is full of cherry blossoms and Tokyo Disney have a fun Easter event thought the month of April leading into May.
- May – After Golden week, the crowds are quieter and the weather is warmer.
- October and November – You can experience both Christmas and Halloween events during these months but also lower crowds and cooler weather.

September – Crowds are lower and temperature becomes more manageable.
October – Hit or miss; Typhoon season brings lower crowds but bad weather and generally, only indoor attractions will run. However you can get quiet and dry days and experience Halloween events.
November – Visit; Cooler weather, quieter crowds and both Halloween and Christmas events
December – Hit or miss; cold weather but fun Christmas events – avoid after 25th December
