Shanghai Disneyland Resort has announced that May 11th will be when they reopen with limited attendance.
The park has been closed for more than three months, with the global pandemic leading to Disney Parks shutting their doors across the world. As Disney fans await reopen dates, it looks like fans in Shanghai may be able to return to their favourite theme park soon.
On Tuesday, Disney announced that the parks would begin a phased reopening in less than a week on May 11th 202. However, there would be a limited attendance and social distancing must be practised.
Bob Chapek, the chief executive officer of The Walt Disney Company explained:
“As the park reopens with significantly enhanced health and safety measures, our guests will find Shanghai Disneyland as magical and memorable as ever.”
As part of the new measures, guests will be asked to purchase selected date tickets and annual pass holders must make an advanced reservation in order to stick to the limited attendance number of 24,000 visitors a day. However, it is like that the park will spend the first week or so with far fewer visitors per day, as the staff begin to put new procedures and processes into place.
Restaurants will also have a controlled capacity limit and there will be a limit on the number of people allowed in line for rides. Disney have also explained how their will be social distancing guidelines in the lines too.
Before entering the park, guests will have their temperature checked and must require a most or facial covering during their entire visit; expect when dining.
Shanghai Disneyland have also implemented sanitisation and disinfection measurements, with hand sanitisers at ride entrances and exits.
Meanwhile, cast members will be working towards contactless guest interaction and be expected to wear protective equipment, including masks.
Shanghai Disneyland was the first Disney park to close at the start to the Covid-19 pandemic but fans will be excited to see the companies largest international park moving towards reopening in full.
All 12 Disney Parks in North America, Asia and Europe have been closed for more than a month, causing substantial loss of earnings. No more news or date has been given for the Disneyland and Disney World parks reopening.
The official statement on the Shanghai Disneyland Resort website reads:
Shanghai Disneyland theme park will officially reopen to the public on May 11, 2020. The initial park reopening will demonstrate a deliberate approach, drawing on the experience from the successful reopening of Disneytown, Wishing Star Park and Shanghai Disneyland Hotel in early March, and implement enhanced health and safety measures.
During this initial reopening phase, the park will institute new measures and procedures, including opening with limited attendance and required advanced ticketing and reservations, accommodating social distancing in queues, restaurants, ride vehicles and other facilities throughout the park, and implementing increased frequency of sanitization and disinfection.
Ticket sales will be available via the resort’s official online channels and official travel partners’ channels beginning on May 8 at 8:00 a.m., with a limited number of tickets available each day during the initial reopening. Guests are required to purchase dated admission tickets prior to their arrival, and Annual Pass holders must make a reservation for their visit date and time through the resort’s official online channels before their visit to the park. During this “Advanced Reservation Period,” General Admission tickets for Shanghai Disneyland will not be accepted.
