Growing up in the UK, I loved visiting Legoland Windsor. My younger brother would love the tame rides whilst I would love to see the Lego built skylines and cities (always wanderlust at heart). Now, as an adult, this is still a fun theme park to visit, especially for families with younger children.

Planning Your Visit

Book Tickets in Advance: Purchasing tickets online before your visit can save you money and time. LEGOLAND Windsor often offers discounts for advance bookings, currently tickets at the door are £68 but when booking online, you pay just £29.

Annual Pass: Plan on going more than once in a year? An annual pass means you can visit Legoland multiple times throughout the season, including during the seasonal events.

Merlin Pass: If you are based in the UK, especially in the South of England, you may benefit from a Merlin Pass. Merlin Entertainment is the company that runs multiple theme parks and attractions across the country, so an annual pass gives you access to all of these, as often as you wish to visit.

These start at £99 and include some of the best UK theme Parks like: Alton Towers, Chessington World of Adventures, Legoland and Thorpe Park.

When to visit LEGOLAND Windsor

Check the Calendar: Before planning anything, make sure you check the opening dates of Legoland the year you wish to visit. This is a seasonal park, meaning it is only open during certain times of the year. Generally, it opens from mid March to mid September.

Avoid school holidays: In the UK, schools have various holidays and visiting LEGOLAND Windsor at this time, can be busy. Check school dates before your visit, but typically the Easter break falls is a two week holiday which falls in April, May holidays are a week long mid-May and the Summer break tends to be a 6 week break, from the end of July through to the first week of September.

Weather: So the problem with visiting any UK theme park, is the weather. It is unpredictable and nothing like the warm weather you experience over in the US. However, it can make exploring the parks a little more bearable.

Obviously, weather can change day-by-day, but a rough weather guide for the UK is:

November – February: Cold months (theme parks are closed during this time). You will need a coat, and an umbrella during this time. Occasional snowfall can occur in January or early February.

March – May: The Spring months are my favorite months to visit the UK parks. This is when the weather picks up, and you can get warm enough days, where all you need is a hoodie or light jacket. We do recommend packing a foldable raincoat or umbrella though, as rainfall is a common occurrence in the UK.

June – August: These Summer months are great times to visit LEGOLAND Windsor, especially for families. The weather is warm, there is less rain (mostly) and all attractions are open. This is a great time to visit as long as you can avoid weekends or the school holidays.

However, even during the summer holidays, weekdays aren’t too crowded, so don’t be put off visiting the park during the busier season.

September – November: The weather is getting cooler during this time, and there are fewer school holidays. The rain tends to stay off most of September but can begin again around October time. Legoland closes in September too, but does offer special days on the lead up to Halloween.

Getting to LEGOLAND Windsor

Transportation Options: LEGOLAND Windsor is easily accessible by car, train, and bus. If driving, follow the signs from the M4 motorway (exit at junction 6).

For public transport, take a train to Windsor & Eton Central or Windsor & Eton Riverside, and then a shuttle bus or taxi to the park.

Parking: There is ample parking at the park, but it can fill up quickly on busy days. Consider arriving early to get a good spot. Preferred parking options are available for an additional fee, offering closer access to the entrance.

Where to stay near Legoland Windsor

On-Site Hotels: Staying at the LEGOLAND Resort Hotel or the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel can enhance your experience with themed rooms and early park access.

LEGOLAND Resort Hotel offer fun themed rooms, so no matter what a child is interested in, you can find a room they’ll love. Themed rooms include: Ninjago, Pirate, Lego Friends and Lego Movie rooms.

LEGOLAND Castle Hotel is a castle made of gigantic lego bricks, with castle tours available, fun play zones and knightly entertainment. As you can expect, the themed rooms here include a Royal Princess theme, wizards, and knights and dragons.

Both hotels offer packages that include park tickets, breakfast, parking, and even an in-room treasure hunt for younger children.
