Fall at Dollywood

Best time to visit Dollywood?

Peak Season at Dollywood is from June to October, with the busiest months being March, July and October. That being said, visiting any of the following seasons can be fun and offer a unique experience.

Spring: The Park opens around the second weekend of March, meaning that pass holders have been able to explore the park by the time Spring comes around. We love spring for a visit to Dollywood, as the weather is mild so you can enjoy the outdoor attractions and because it is a quieter time to visit (other than spring break), you can enjoy quieter ride lines.

Plus, the Festival of Nations runs throughout the Spring months too.

Summer: If you only have one day in Dollywood, Summer can be a good time to visit because of the extended park hours. Plus watersides and the Splash Country water park are in full swing and a great way to cook off.

Summer time also sees the Summer Celebration event, complete with fireworks and special shows.

However, it can be hot and humid at this time and it is peak season for tourists.

Fall: Cooler temperatures roll into Tennessee during the fall, making Dollywood a little more manageable when enjoying the outdoor attractions. Crowds are smaller at this time and some attractions may close earlier.

Dollywood’s Harvest Festival is a unique Autumn festival, with crafts, food and the Great Pumpkin LumiNights show.

Winter: Rides and attractions can be closed during this season, and the colder weather means the outdoor activities are limited.

However, this is a festival time to visit, and Christmas at Hollywood is a magical experience; we talk about it a little more below!

Weekdays tend to be less crowded, with shorter lines and a more relaxed experience. If you have just one or two dats in the park and hope to ride as many of the rides as you can, go for a weekday. Based on Dollywood stats, the best days to visit depends on the season:

  • Spring: Thursdays
  • Summer: Wednesdays or Thursdays
  • Fall: Weekdays
  • Christmas: Weekdays

The busiest times of the day are typically between 10am to 2pm.

Weekends see more visitors but because of this, there are more entertainment options and special events. So, if you have already visited the theme park or not as fussed to ride all the rides, you can enjoy Dollywood on the weekend for a diverse variety of entertainment options.

Parking is available at Dollywood and an easy way to get to and from the park. However, if you are staying in the nearby areas, you can use the Pigeon Forge Trolley system to get in and out of the park; however it can get busy especially at closing time.

If you choose to park at Dollywood, you can use the free tram service that runs from th parking areas to the front fate, saving you energy for the park.

Rates vary for the park but check prices on the website before you go; as often cheaper prices are available if you pay for parking in advance.

Preferred parking is also available, giving you a closer spot to the entrance. This means quicker access to the park and shorter distances to walk. However, get here early to secure a spot as these full quickly.

Handicap parking is also available near the entrance and you will need to display a valid permit to park here. The trams are wheelchair accessible too.

Coming here in an RV? There are special areas designated for RVs and oversized vehicles, so make sure to follow the sizes for this parking area.

As we always suggest, take a photo of the your parking area and tram stop number, so you can find your car easily at the end of the day.

If you are visiting Splash Country, this is the same parking lot as the theme park, so make sure to follow signs to the ride park.

Dollywood Tips

Inside Dollywood Tips

  1. Download the app: Get yourself the Dollywood app or a map as you walk into the park. This can help you navigate your way around the park, perfect for when you are looking for the nearest bathroom or restaurant. The app also shows restaurant menus, show times, and ride wait times.
  2. Save time on the rides: Firstly, head to the most popular attractions and rides first thing in the morning or in the late afternoon. This is when the queues are at their shortest.
  3. Single Rider lanes: You can save a lot of time by queuing for the single rider lands. You won’t be sat together with your party but you can often ride the same cars as your party.
  4. Time your meals: On busy days in the park, it isn’t just the rides that get busy. Restaurants and food stops can get busier during the peak hours of the day. We recommend eating lunch earlier from 10.30-11.30 or later on from 2pm onwards.
  5. Height restrictions: Some rides to have height restrictions, so check these before queuing for a ride, to avoid disappointment. You can actually visit the measuring station when you first enter the park, and get a color coded wristband.
  6. Show times: Dollywood is home to some great shows so check the times on the app and arrive early for the best seats.
  7. Rider Swap program: If you have small children, you can use the rider swap program, so parents can take it in turns to ride.
  8. Shopping in Dollywood: There are plenty of cool souvenirs to purchase in Dollywood but you may not want to carry these around with you all day. Instead, hold off shopping until the end of your visit.
  9. Shopping pickup: Alternatively, if there is an item you love on one side of the park and you don’t want to carry it around all day but do want to buy it now, you can use the package pickup system. Speak to those in the store when purchasing, and they can arrange for it to be ready to collect at the front of the park, as you exit.
  10. First Aid: There are first aid stations all over the park and you can use the app to find these with ease. Ideal for those visiting with younger children.
Dollywood Splash Country tips

Dollywood Splash Country tips

  1. Arrive early: Similar to the Dollywood Theme Park, you need to arrive early to get a good spot for your belongings.
  2. Rent a retreat: Splash Country can be warm and busy, so renting a retreat is a huge help. These are shared areas with lounge chairs, a table and Waite service. It is also a more private space for groups to relax and store their belongings.
  3. Consider Cabana Rentals: For even more comfort and luxury, you can rent a cabana. These provide shade, comfortable seating and additional amenities.
  4. The Splash Pass: This allows you to reserve your spot in line for popular rides, by joining a virtual queue. This can help reduce wait times, especially during peak hours.
  5. Bring towels: Some attractions provide towels but we prefer having our own with us, to dry ourselves off in-between rides and meals.
  6. Bring sunscreen: Of course this is a must, especially during those longer days.
  7. Water shoes: Water shoes can protect your feet from the hot, rough terrain; ideal when waling around the park.
  8. Waterproof Cameras: You can bring a waterproof camera or a waterproof case for your phone, to capture all the fun memories too.

How does Dollywood Fast Pass work?

Dollywood has a system called the ’timesaver pass’; similar to the fast pass systems at other theme parks like Disney parks. This allows guests to minimize wait times for the most popular rides and attractions. However, there are some things to know about it before using the pass:

  1. Types of Passes: Timesaver Unlimited allows you to bypass regular lines an unlimited number of times for select rides and attractions. The TimeSaver pass allows one-time use for each eligible ride and attraction.
  2. Reservations: You can reserve your ride time through the Dollywood app or at designated kiosks within the park.
  3. Bypassing lines: When it is your time to use your reservation, you can bypass the regular line and enjoy a shorter wait time.
  4. Limited availability: TimeSaver Passes are limited to a certain amount each day, so buy these in advance to avoid disappointment.

Packing and what to wear in Dollywood?

  • Water Bottle: Stay hydrated whilst in the park. There are plenty of water fountains to take advantage of, so bring a refillable water bottle and stay hydrated on your trip.
  • Avoid new shoes: We have all been there; we buy a new pair of shoes that we have to wear immediately, especially for a fun day out. However, new shoes are a no go for this park; unless they are super comfortable. Comfort is key here, so wear shoes you feel comfortable in and give your feet full support.
  • Poncho or raincoat: Prepare for the water rides or sudden rain falls with an easy, foldable poncho or raincoat.
  • Layers: Bringing some layers along with you, especially during the Spring or Fall months, is a must. Long days in the park means weather can change quite a bit, so pack some layers for your visit.
  • Sunscreen and hat: Check the weather before you go and dress appropriately. For those warmer months, make sure to bring a hat and sunscreen; no-one wants to get sick from the sun on their trip.
